Gattaca (1997)

Quite often we see Science Fiction movies trying to blend its success more on the special extravaganza and rather short on the thematic aspect.

Andrew Niccol's Gattaca in one remark is simply 'Brilliant'

The implication carried by this movie was literal in every sense and to put it in simple words; triumph of the human spirit against all odds.

Without giving away much of the story, we are shown a 21st century where scientific advancement have made it feasible to create humans with genetic modifications (called valids); thus giving them additional lead for success and status in the society over the people born through natural birth (called invalids). The story unfolds from the perspective of one invalid named 'Vincent' who dreams to be an astronaut at Gattaca Corporation but existing social structure does not make it possible. Nevertheless by some unlawful means it seems that the dream is just about within reach when one murder within the corporation jeopardizes everything.

Gattaca boasts some solid casts, Ethan Hawke as Vincent had been great and his role was evenly balanced by Jude Law & Uma Thurman.

Artistic touch infused within the movie will be highly appreciated.

Movie buffs and enthusiast should surly never skip this one, most definitely can be recommended for collection.

My Rating : 8/10
